Was nationalism of the nineteenth century progressive or a regressive force?
During the 19th century, a new idea was circulating through Europe. Whether used bring together a country such as Germany or Italy together, or to break up one like Austria-Hungry, Nationalism was the idea used by government and ethnic groups to unite under one country. Nationalism was the idea that all people had a right to their own country. Brought about by Napoleon it both helped and hurt certain countries and peoples depending on the persons point of view, but what nationalism certainly did do was change the face of Europe forever.

Intro to paragraph- For some people, Nationalism significantly helped better their lives, the governement, and/or the their status as a European power.
Main points of interest: It over all helped Germany become a big power, allowed them to unite and defeat France, started the reign of Bismarck, united Italy, made them more powerful in Europe, France become a republic twice, helped Serbia and other Balkan countries gain independence, Greece gets independence.
